So, the first among equals have taken yet another step out of their senses and decided to make the 10th boards optional. While it's absolutely true that this will reduce stress on the students, but still it's ridiculous.
1> A little bit of competition, won't kill anyone, it'll make them better.
2> A centralized exam will show not only the standard of the students participating, but also gives a peek into the quality of education imparted in the respective school(s).
3> How many schools in the country have impartial and fair interal examinations, definitely not most of the government supported ones, where more stress is on tuitions when deciding the number of marks to be awarded to the students.
4> Why don't the powers that be try to improve quality of education at the government sponsored schools, instead of trying to do away with any method of judging that quality?
There might be other pros and cons, but I'll say that the pros far outweigh the cons of having a Xth board exam.

I do not know much of standardized tests and what they are currently doing about the education system as a whole, but coming from a public high school, and a catholic grade school before that, I have seen both sides.
Its obvious that there are problems with the way the government handles school funding and school standardized testing.
The question we come to often when dealing with this issue is how far can we break a current system down without making it less efficient. Then the final question is can you build it back up into a stronger, better, 'more fair' system...
Is this going to be worth the money it takes to improve our national education. I say yes.
